MORTAR | Industrial Designer
MORTAR is a pencil sharpener inspired by the grounding ritual of a mortar and pestle. The tools we use shape our work and our mindset. This one turns a mundane task into a mindful one.
Problem: Modern tools are built to save time, not to be felt. The experience of using them has disappeared.
Process: I started with the history of the pencil sharpener, then studied analogous experiences where slowness is the point. The form translates a meditative motion into sharpening.
Outcome: People said it feels like a meditation.
