ÀYÀ | interactive EXHIBIT DESIGN
ÀYÀ is an interactive installation that evokes peace of mind in participants and passers-by. Write down what gives you peace on a dandelion seed. Plant it on the wall. The feeling grows in your mind, and in everyone who reads it and recognizes their own.
The Challenge: Design an experience that evokes peace of mind, even though peace means something different to everyone.
The Approach: I explored the words surrounding peace of mind and landed on forget. The opposite of forget is remember. I could evoke peace simply by helping people remember their own. So I built the experience around a single question: what gives you peace of mind? Participants write their answers on dandelion seeds, carriers of wishes, and plant them in a communal wall. As the wall blooms, visitors recognize their own peace in the words of strangers. The delicate seeds sit against raw steel and concrete inspired by the San Francisco Bay Bridge, materials chosen to evoke a quiet sense of safety.
The Outcome: On display for three days. Seen by hundreds and shared across Instagram and design blogs.
